What is a developmental edit?
This is a structural edit looking at a story’s foundation. This is the step after you’ve got a completed first draft, but before you’re ready for editing at the sentence level.
What I provide is an in-depth overview of your story. Did you hit your beats? Are your characters growing? Are they likeable? Is the romance satisfying? Are there pesky little things like telling instead of showing?
I provide in-line comments in your manuscript, as well as a comprehensive report based on ten important categories. I’ve spent years honing this report using my experience as a judge in many writing contests, and my years providing feedback for authors.

What does it cost?
I use the Editorial Freelance Association rates for cost per word. When you submit a request for an edit, I’ll provide a quote. Here is a rate chart you can reference.

What does this work include?
A beta read on steroids. This critique includes a read of your entire book focusing on the major structural elements of your story. This is less expensive than a developmental edit, and provides a good way to get feedback on bigger picture elements of the story and identify the major strengths and weaknesses.
